For owners and directors of residential care homes
From its opening in 2027, Adria Care Residence will welcome groups from European care homes for seasonal stays of 4–12 weeks. Conversations with operators are possible now; the residence is not operating yet. We follow an agreed care plan and communicate in six languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Serbian and Russian.
Why it works for operators
A seasonal stay on the Adriatic is not a holiday package. It helps a care home plan capacity, manage costs and offer families a distinctive additional service.
Process
Together we define the group size, required level of care, season and length of stay. We recommend beginning with a four-week pilot for 6–10 residents.
Your head of nursing sends our team the care plans, medication lists and relevant records. We resolve any open questions in a joint video call before departure.
We arrange a door-to-door journey with medical support: a flight to Tivat or Podgorica followed by a transfer, or a coach with an overnight stop for partners in Austria, northern Italy and nearby regions.
Our team follows the agreed care plan and sends a weekly report to your home and, if requested, to families. A member of staff from your home stays with the group so that care remains familiar.
After the stay, your head of nursing receives a complete record of observations, treatment changes and medical findings. Each resident also takes home a printed photo album prepared by our photographer.
Safety
Before arrival, we receive the care plan, medication schedule and relevant records. During the stay, we keep documentation in a format compatible with your home's practice.
The clinic for emergency care in Budva will be named before a contract is signed. A GP visit and supply through local pharmacies are planned.
When needed, the attending physician at your home can join a video consultation. Your head of nursing receives up-to-date information on the resident's condition.
International medical insurance covering medically necessary transport home is planned for every resident.
Economics
The concrete calculation is based on a seasonal factor and your home's own care rates. German long-term-care insurance generally does not cover residential care abroad. We do not publish euro figures or savings amounts; figures are discussed only in a personal conversation.
Seasonal programmes
November – March
Daytime temperatures of 10–15 °C, more daylight and more opportunities to spend time outdoors. This is the programme's main season.
April – June · September – October
Temperatures of 18–24 °C are well suited to gentle outdoor activity. It is a practical period for pilot stays, renovations or staff-holiday cover at your home.
July – August
In the hottest months, activities take place by the water in the morning, the residence is air-conditioned during the day, and excursions head to the cooler hills behind the coast.
The location
Around 240 sunny days a year, three climate zones between sea and mountains, level promenades and excursions with short walking distances — from the Bay of Kotor to Lake Skadar. Our Montenegro page includes practical details and a month-by-month temperature table.
Frequent questions
German long-term-care insurance generally does not cover residential care abroad. Two models are possible: the operator includes the stay within its existing rate and uses the cost difference, or the family pays for it as an additional service. The agreed model is set out clearly in the contract.
The clinic for emergency care in Budva will be named before a contract is signed. On-site on-call cover and international health and repatriation insurance for every resident are planned. Your home and the family are informed immediately if anything happens.
Care is multilingual: the head of nursing and shift leads are German-speaking, and the wider team also covers English, French, Spanish, Serbian and Russian. Documentation is kept in your home's language. A member of staff from your home stays with the group — a familiar face who keeps care continuous.
For most groups we recommend a flight to Tivat or Podgorica followed by an organised transfer. We confirm the departure airport, connection and total journey time separately for each group. A coach with an overnight stop is offered only where it is more practical.
We normally accept residents at care levels 1–2. Level 3 may be possible after an individual assessment by our head of nursing. Residents at level 4 or above, with severe dementia or intensive-care needs cannot take part. The attending physician must confirm fitness to travel.
Conversations and a first overview are possible now. The residence opens in 2027 and is not operating yet. After opening, we recommend a four-week pilot for 6–10 residents. You then decide whether to enter into a framework agreement.
Overview or conversation
Tell us about your home and the likely framework. We will first send a short overview and check whether a conversation makes sense. The residence opens in 2027; conversations are possible now.
